What is Zen meditation?

Zen is a form of Buddhist meditation, which emerged in China in the 6th century; the word Zen is a Japanese pronunciation of the Chinese "Dzyen", derived from the Sanskrit "Dhyana" or "State of meditation".

Zen emphasizes the wisdom gained through experience in contrast to the theory. Zazen or "sitting meditation", is in the heart of the practice. Called as Buddha attained enlightenment, he was in a sitting position. Moving on foot, meditation, yoga, Tai Chi, and other meditations are not part of the Zen tradition.

We see our body, mind and breath even as separate entities. In Zen, there is no separation.

The practice is simple. It is easy to say, "that's how you do it" and easy-to-follow instructions. But... the essence of Zen is that in its simplicity, it is very difficult; and its difficulties, it is very easy!
